The Hong Kong Government has announced the “Hong Kong Resource Recycling Blueprint 2035,” which envisions “Waste Reduction for All, Resource Recycling, Zero Waste to Landfill.” This blueprint outlines strategies, goals, and measures to address waste management challenges by 2035.
Under this vision, the government aims to collaborate with industry and the public toward two main objectives. In the medium term, it plans to gradually reduce per capita municipal solid waste disposal by 40% to 45% through the implementation of municipal solid waste charging, while increasing recycling rates to approximately 55%. In the long term, the goal is to develop sufficient waste-to-energy facilities to eliminate reliance on direct waste disposal in landfills.
To achieve these objectives, the government will promote six key actions: waste reduction for all, classified recycling, resource recycling, industry support, collaborative innovation, and education promotion. These initiatives aim to advance policies and measures that foster a circular economy and cultivate a sustainable, green living environment.
